If there was any doubt that Infiniti vehicles are getting smarter and more technologically advanced, we now have proof. Android, the popular and widely available mobile operating system from Google, will soon be available in an automotive version on Infiniti vehicles. Here at Sawgrass Infiniti, we’re excited about the potential of this new feature, and look forward to using it on future Infiniti vehicles.

This Android Auto operating system will use the familiar interface that now runs on your smart phone, including reminders, alerts, apps, and yes Google’s navigation tool. Smart phones and other devices that run the Android operating system will now be able to integrate with your Infiniti infotainment system and display information directly on the monitor of your vehicle.

What it Means For Florida Drivers

No one can argue the convenience and utility of our smart phones and other devices. We’ve gotten used to using them for a variety of purposes including email, navigation, reminders, music and a whole lot more. So why is this important to South Florida Infiniti drivers? Because it adds a whole new layer of ease and even safety to the technology built in to your Infiniti vehicle.

Some of the features that you can expect from the new Android Auto operating system include:

  • Easy hands-free access to Google Maps and turn-by-turn navigation
  • Integrated steering wheel controls for accessing programs and apps
  • A set of new voice commands and actions to reduce distraction
  • Audio integration with your Infiniti sound system
  • Access to music through the Google Play Music app
  • Make phone calls or send and receive messages hands-free
  • Access to your favorite apps – even traffic and weather

How to Get Android Auto

Currently Android Auto is offered on a limited number of vehicles, and is still considered to be in a test stage. That said, it will likely be made available in many 2016 and beyond Infiniti models, including the new Infiniti Q30 and QX30 that are coming soon. It is also likely to be included in many existing models for the 2016 and 2017 model years, such as the Q40, Q50 and Q70 sedans, as well as the sporty Q60 coupe and convertible.

If you’re a crossover or SUV driver, the Infiniti QX50, QX60 and QX70 crossovers and the extraordinary Infiniti QX80 SUV will almost certainly include Google’s Android Auto in their future technology features as well.

What we here at Sawgrass Infiniti consider the most significant impact of this new feature is the ability for drivers to keep their hands and eyes on the road, while still accessing all of the convenience features that we love. It’s just another sign that Infiniti and the makers of new technology continue to put the safety interests of drivers first.
