Create an engine that is worthy of being named to Ward’s “10 Best Engines” list. more The Award-Winning Engine Introduced into the Q50 sports sedan and Q60 sports coupe models, the VR-Series 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine has been named one of the top ten engines for 2017. Two versions of the engine are offered, a base configuration producing 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque or high-performance version turning out 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. In either configuration, it was noted that the VR-series engine produced smooth, immediate response under acceleration as well as available power throughout the rev range of the engine. Lightweight aluminum construction and low mechanical friction doesn’t just provide increased performance, but also helps to curb noise, vibration, and overall harshness. The immediate response is also aided by a new direct-injection gasoline fueling system that was developed specifically for this engine. The VR also drew some notice for being an improvement over the previous high-performance Q50 engine, a 3.7-liter V6, by not only being more powerful but also being more fuel efficient. From the 3.7-liter to the VR, the Q50 has seen a 6.7% improvement in fuel economy. Editorial director Dave Zoia was beaming about the V6, saying “Silky smooth, quiet when you want it to be and capable of delivering some pretty respectable fuel economy numbers. We're thinking the new VR engine just might be a dynasty in the making.” What is Ward’s 10 Best Engines? Every year, Ward’s AutoWorld magazine tests a wide variety of vehicles and engines and lists their 10 favorites. While some magazines center on the vehicle as a whole, Ward’s breaks down certain components and compares them – after all, you can have a bad engine in a good car, or a good engine in a car that is undesirable. Over a two-month testing period, the editors of the magazine evaluate engines against a number of objective and subjective criteria, things such as noise, vibration, and harshness levels, technical relevance, power and torque output, and other basic comparative numbers. There are no instrumented tests done. This year, the field included the ten winners from the previous year, the VR-series twin-turbo, and over 40 new or significantly-improved engines. To make this short list, the engine must be available in regular-production vehicles on sale in the U.S. market, and must be available in at least one vehicle with a base price of no more than $60,000 in 2015, increasing by $200 every year. This prevents limited-edition engines and supercars from dominating the production-minded, widespread engines. Ward’s seems to really like the Q50 – this honor for the engine comes close on the heels of Ward’s naming the vehicle as one of its “10 Best User Experiences” for the year. Blind Spot Warning: When a vehicle is in the QX60’s blind spot, a light is illuminated in the instruments. If the turn signal is engaged, the light starts to flash and audible warnings are sounded. Blind Spot Intervention: Infiniti was the first automaker to introduce a blind spot intervention system in vehicles. Along with the Blind Spot Warning system, this feature alerts drivers, but if a vehicle is detected in the blind spot, it will autonomously move the car back to the center of its current lane if drift is detected. Lane Departure Warning and Prevention: Both of these feature alert drivers of and prevent unintentional lane drift. The Warning system provides light and audible warnings when drift is detected. The prevention system also automatically slowly applies the brakes to help you move back into the lane. Intelligent Cruise Control: Intelligent cruise control is a truly 21st century CC system. The system monitors traffic around the QX60 and automatically adjusts outputs to maintenance safe distance. It’s no secret that Infiniti’s QX50 sales have been lagging in recent years while the luxury crossover market in general has been booming. The QX50 manufacturer took note and redesigned the QX50 in order to make it more competitive. In essence, Infiniti intends this vehicle to be roomier, more fun to drive and, of course, safer than its predecessors and competition. more It's Bigger on the Outside and Inside The QX50 now has a coupe-like design for the exterior styling. The 2016 model incorporates a new front bumper and lower fascia, L-shaped headlamps with LED daytime running lights, a restyled grille, new side mirrors with integrated LED turn signals, updated side sills, and a new rear bumper and lower fascia. In addition, there’s a standard power sliding tinted glass moon roof with tilt feature, sliding sunshade and available roof rails. The wheelbase has been extended by 3.2 inches, bringing it to 113.4 inches total, with overall length increased by 4.5 inches to 186.8 inches total. The larger exterior translates into more legroom for the passengers. The new QX50 now has an 8.3 cubic-foot increase in interior space (115.4 cubic feet total). Most of that extra space is in the second-row seating, with legroom increasing by 4.3 inches and knee room increased by 3.9 inches, for a total of 35.3 inches and 25.5 inches respectively. For starters, Infiniti says the new engine has improved fuel economy by about 7 percent, compared to previous versions. Plus, output has been maximized. When you maintain your Infiniti regularly, you can make sure your vehicle is at the peak of its performance. While your personal model may have specific service requirements, in general, most Infiniti owners should adhere to the following basic maintenance schedule. more Continue Reading Every 5,000 Miles or Six Months Replace your Infiniti's engine oil and filter and lubricate the propeller shaft. For most Infiniti owners, this period is also the time to have your tires rotated, with some exceptions. If you own a performance or sports model, such as the Q60 Coupe Journey with Sport Package, your car will have different tire rotation specifications. Refer to the owner's manual when in doubt. If you tend to drive in stop-and-go traffic; do much off-roading; have driven in deep sand, water, or mud; or regularly tow a trailer, you'll want to have these basic services performed every 3 months, or every 3,750 miles. However, every 5,000 miles is a good rule of thumb for most drivers. In addition, have your maintenance technician inspect the vehicle's exhaust system, brake calipers, pads, rotors, axle and suspension parts, steering gear, and steering linkage ball joints if you use your vehicle under more strenuous operating conditions like those noted above. Every 10,000 Miles or 12 Months Each year, you'll need to bring your Infiniti to your service technician for a thorough inspection. This inspection checks CVT fluid, manual transmission oil, brake lines and cables, automatic transmission fluid, differential oil, transfer case oil, drive shaft boots, and other aspects of your vehicle to make sure everything is working properly. In some cases, you may need to have your brake fluid replaced. This type of inspection will visually look for any signs of leakage. Ask your certified Infiniti technician about performing a Multi-Point Inspection each time you bring in the vehicle for regular maintenance, as the regular maintenance period is the best way to spot potential issues before they lead to problems.
