Blue Monster Doral

If you love hitting the links, then Florida is probably one of the best places on Earth to live. With courses throughout the state, great weather almost year-round, and a variety of course difficulties, Florida has the perfect spot to hone your craft or have a nice Saturday outside with some friends. Here’s a few places to check out if you’re looking for a new golf course or just adding some variety.

The Tournament Player’s Club at Sawgrass

Opened in 1980, Sawgrass is a Tournament Player’s Club course, which is a chain of public and private courses run by the Professional Golfer’s Association. As such, this course is definitely not for the novice. It hosts the Players Championship every year and gives even golf’s finest players quite a bit of difficulty. The most famous hole is the par-3, 17th hole, also known as the “Island Green”, which, like the name implies, features a green almost completely surrounded by water. This course is just south of Jacksonville, and it’s open to the public. However, prices vary depending on the season, but generally, it costs about $400 for a round of 18.

Waldorf Astoria Orlando

What’s better than getting pampered at the five-star Waldorf Astoria? Grabbing some of your closest friends and hitting an equally as impressive golf course. Located on the grounds of the Waldorf Astoria hotel, this golf course, which is open to the public, has some excellent holes to test your skills. If you don’t feel quite up to par with the difficulty of the course, grab a private lesson with some of golf’s best instructors in the country. Rates vary depending on the time of day, but expect to pay between $95 and $165 to grab 18 holes, depending on whether you’re a guest at the hotel or just passing through.

Trump National Doral

Whether you love him or hate him, Donald Trump only lends his name to the finest in real estate. In this case, the golf course and hotel at Trump National Doral is widely regarded as one of the best public golf courses in the state. Located on over 800 acres just outside Miami, this course offers a challenging array of 90 holes for golfers of any skill level. The most famous set of holes is the “Blue Monster”, which features one of the toughest 18th holes on the PGA tour. To golf here, you’ll need to plop down between $195 and $450, depending on the season.

Gasparilla Island Golf Course

Situated west of Fort Myers, Gasparilla Island Golf Course is just that – a challenging and scenic course located on Gasparilla Island. It’s not a course for beginners, as a slight miss can see the ball sail out into the Gulf of Mexico. Ranked as one of the 75 best public golf courses by Golf Digest, you can play here for just $115 for 18 holes.

These are just a few of the seemingly endless golfing options throughout the state of Florida. From experienced players to beginners, there’s a course out there to suit your strengths. So, check out one of these courses today.
