New Infiniti QX30 Crossover Is On Its Way

Infiniti QX30-Concept
When it was unveiled in early March at the Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland, the new Infiniti QX30 concept vehicle looked both familiar, and surprisingly new. This exciting new compact crossover looks familiar because it has some of the same recent styling cues that Infiniti has begun attaching to the new lineup. It also looks familiar because it’s almost identical to the recently announced Q30 compact hatchback that will be coming out later this year. The difference between the Q30 and this new QX30 compact crossover is in the higher stance, more muscular wheel-well flares, larger wheels and a generally larger presence. Ok, so both vehicles share the same platform, and both have the same engines, but somehow the new QX30 just appears bigger and more capable. Of course there are other differences between the two siblings, including the aggressively styled front fascia and air intake on the QX30, as well as trim and detail cues. All of us here at Sawgrass Infiniti are definitely impressed with both of these new Infiniti compacts. We think this ushers in a new era of styling, and gives Infiniti vehicles a solid foundation in the fast growing luxury compact segment. As we see more value-conscious drivers here in our showroom, we think these new vehicles are a logical choice and a great alternative to the bland competition. Expected Powertrain and Performance Like the Q30, the new Infiniti QX30 crossover will use a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that was designed by Mercedes-Benz. The expectation is that this powerful little engine will produce somewhere around 235 to 250-horsepower. It will also be paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission and will be offered in an all-wheel drive version. Since exact numbers aren’t officially available yet, there is no way to estimate any fuel economy numbers; however, the 2.0-liter engines from Mercedes-Benz that are in current production receive very high efficiency ratings in the 30+ mpg range. Infiniti QX30 Styling As we mentioned at the top, the styling cues for both the Q30 and QX30 are representative of Infiniti’s unique new design vision. The “notched” c-pillar and strongly defined longitudinal body lines. In fact, the entire appearance of both of these new compacts are a clue to where Infiniti plans to take the upcoming generations of vehicles – and we thank that’s a good thing.

QX30-Concept-InteriorInside the new QX30 you instantly lose any impression that this is an entry level or valued priced vehicle. While leather seating will be an option, even without this luxurious touch the QX30 is lavishly styled. The flowing and organic lines from the exterior carry over into the cabin space, and offer a sense of wrap-around comfort without ever feeling cramped. The materials and trim details set the QX30 apart from just any old compact SUV, while the ample technology features are enough to keep even the most tech-savvy millennial happy.

This new Infiniti QX30 is sure to be a hit here in South Florida. We envision this luxury compact SUV to be one of the best-sellers in our dealership when it finally arrives for the 2016 model year. If you’re interested in learning more about the new Infiniti QX30, drop us a line. We’ll make sure you are one of the first to see and drive the new compact crossover when it arrives in our dealership. That way you can share in the excitement of everyone here at Sawgrass Infiniti.

VC Turbo Engine: Our Efficiency Revolution

INFINITI’s VC-Turbo S.U.V.: A Revolution in Efficiency This year, INFINITI paves the way for innovation in the car industry with a new, production-ready engine with a variable compression ratio in its combustion chambers even while the vehicle is in motion. more This is important because the relationship between the largest and smallest volume in a cylinder- ie compressions- during the piston stroke determines both the fuel efficiency and power of internal-combustion engines. Lower compression ratios are desirable for efficiency and more Eco-friendly operation. Higher ratios are what you want when performance is what you crave. Why is Variable Compression Ratio Important? Experts are calling INFINITI’s accomplishment in the VC-Turbo a significant advance in the way automobile engines are made, and function. The ability of an engine to render variable compression ratios has long been looked on as a kind of holy grail for engineers for at least the last 50 years in the automobile industry. The “VC” in its name stands for “variable compression.” In today’s standard fixed-compression engines the ratios most commonly achieved fall into the range of 8:1 to 14:1. While these ordinary power plants may reach ratios as low as 6:1 in economy vehicles, and as high as 17:1 in power hungry muscle cars, no other type of internal combustion engine has the range that the VC-Turbo has- making it a serious achievement. Up until now, automobile designers have always had to decide what type of performance they wanted to achieve. They then designed the vehicle around the constraints of that ratio. That’s why some vehicles are merely about-town putters, and some are strictly performance cars. What Makes Our Variable Compression Engine So Efficient? VC-Turbo technology is designed with multi-link, articulating parts that facilitate operation at different compression ratios, depending on driver demand. In the INFINITI engine, ratios from 8:1 to 14:1 are all accessible, giving its engine management system the ability to hit optimal range at all times. Besides its performance range, the VC-Turbo also fits into smaller engine sizes- as small as two liters, but it turns out power equal to INFINITI’s much-larger 3.5-liter V6. Being smaller means it also saves weight. The 2.0 turbo is 55 pounds lighter than the INFINITI V6. That is the kind of improvements that have always been the stuff of auto engineer’s dreams, as advances in a vehicle’s weight are measured in right down to the ounce. According to INFINITI, the little 2.0-liter turbo produces 288 foot-pounds of torque and 268hp and is 27% more fuel efficient than a V-6 of similar output. That is the equivalent of an engine that gets 40 mpg being upgraded to 62 mpg. That kind of efficiency is equal to a comparable four-cylinder diesel engine, with extremely low emissions, according to the manufacturer- which is surprising, to say the least- particularly when compared to soot-belching diesels. If you think all this is impressive, consider that this technology is completely scalable, meaning it could be incorporated into other engine design types. Available Soon at Sawgrass INFINITI INFINITI hasn’t released the pricing for the QX Sport with VC-Turbo, but the S.U.V. the company sells now, wherein the 3.5-liter V6 comes standard has a base price of $42,600.

Infiniti Introduces First Production-Ready Variable Compression Engine

Throughout INFINITI’s history, the automaker has been at the forefront of automobile innovation. That tradition continues later this month. INFINITI will officially unveil the world’s first production-ready variable compression ratio engine on September 29th at the Paris Motor Show. more This new engine is a game-changer for small turbo motors and it’s a step forward in boosting efficiency for internal-combustion engines. Since the engine’s output is automatically adjusted based on driving situation, efficiency is boosted, without having to sacrifice performance. A few quick benefits of the INFINITI Variable Compression Ratio engine include: Greatly reduced fuel consumption Reduced emissions A reduction in noise and vibration Lighter, reduced curbside weight The team at Sawgrass INFINITI is excited about this release. Not only does the INFINITI VC-T engine boost efficiency by up to 27 percent (according to INFINITI’s estimates), but it ensures you still receive that same great performance. VC-T engines were first be introduced in the 2019 production of the mid-sized QX50 SUV. How Does the INFINITI Variable Compression Ratio Engine Work? Although the technology behind the INFINITI VC-T (also known as Variable Compression Turbo) engine is very complex, there are a few keys that can help you understand how it works. Essentially, the engine is able to adjust piston height higher or lower, which enables the volume of the combustion chamber to adjust based on the driving dynamics. Unlike fixed compression ratio engines, the engine has an adjustable compression ratio, ranging between 8:1 for high performance and 14:1 for optimized efficiency. In fact, INFINITI says the 2.0L VC-T engine will deliver performance comparable to a naturally aspirated V6. Simply put, the engine can optimize outputs on the fly to maximize driver benefit. On the highway, or when accelerating, you might need more power from the turbo engine, while in city driving, reduced displacement can cut down on wasted fuel. The result is a vehicle that delivers significantly improved fuel economy and high-output turbo performance. Right now, INFINITI is utilizing the technology for their 2.0L turbo engines, and the automaker has said this technology can be used for other small four-cylinder engines. Yet, it’s not yet ready for larger V6 and V8 engines. When Will The VC-T Engines Become Available in Florida? The good news: You don’t have to wait long to test drive or purchase an INFINITI equipped with VC-T. It will be in the 2019 QX50. Yet, the VC-T is sure to a star in the line-up. Delivering better numbers than a 3.5L V6, the QX50’s 2.0L turbocharged in-line 4 will put out 265 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. That’s very impressive for a four-cylinder engine, and the Sawgrass INFINITI team is super excited with the news. INFINITI hasn’t yet said what the plans are beyond the QX50, but there’s a good chance INFINITI vehicles with four-cylinder engines will have this option moving forward.
